Lets Make... Books
If you’re looking for a quick and easy resource to help identify emotions and build communication skills, look no further than How does Bunjee Feel?. Toddler tantrums are communication, I’m tired, cranky, sad, hungry, and even I just don’t know what I am. Here’s a quick easy craft to do at home or preschool, you can help your toddler express themselves in a healthy and meaningful way.
Crafting with your toddler is a great way to spend some quality time together while also getting creative. For this one, I used my big boy (7 years) for the cutting and gluing (working on those fine motor skills) and my toddler got all the fun lifting the flaps and guessing the emotions, but Mr 7 was pretty proud of his own lift the flap creation. It’s a little rough around the edges but well-loved and that’s the whole point right?
Today we are talking with the Author of the book How Does Bunjee Feel? Josie C. Mott MS, CCC-SLP. I’m super excited to have Josie here first not only as an Author but also as a Speech therapist! How Does Bunjee Feel is a lift flap book written using speech-language pathologist techniques that encourage participation and responses. Bunjee Kangaroo changes color as she reacts to familiar situations that toddlers and preschoolers can relate to their own experiences.

Tell us about your new book – How Does Bunjee Feel?
It’s a lift flap book with an element of surprise
Lift the flap to see Bunjee Kangaroo change colour as she reacts to familiar situations
What can readers gain from the experience?
Toddlers and preschoolers can learn to recognise and label emotions and colours and imitate actions.
Modelling gestures, pointing, and facial expressions provides them another way to communicate and helps to keep them engaged.
How can we help little ones engage with your book?
Using the phrase “You tell Bunjee _” encouragingly and then pausing allows them to take a turn and feel empowered to “tell” the character something by imitating a gesture, facial expression, or word.
It should be an interactive experience.
